Dielectric Strength / Breakdown Voltage (BDV) Test

The Dielectric Strength test, also known as Breakdown Voltage (BDV) test, measures the voltage at which the transformer oil breaks down electrically. This test is critical for assessing whether the oil can safely insulate the transformer windings under operating conditions.
A low BDV value indicates the presence of moisture, dirt particles, or cellulose fibers in the oil, requiring immediate attention.
